Our fine lavender farm : Le Château du Bois

At the origins of the museum, the farm Le Château du Bois Provence

Château du Bois is the name of the lavender estate of the Lincelé family,

with 110 hectares of fine lavender fields cultivated using environmentally friendly methods. In a sensitive ecosystem at 1100 m altitude in the dry mountains of Haute Provence, biodiversity is preserved with 200 hectares of woods and forests and 40 hectares of moorland. This Estate is also a distillery with the production of 100% pure and natural fine lavender essential oil from Haute Provence AOP, used solely for the needs of the brand which bears the name “Le Château du Bois Provence”.
Agricultural methods have always been reasoned, taking care of the evolution and character of the plant: from seed to flower, from cutting to traditional distillation.

The defense of exceptional lavender

We only produce Augustifolia P. Miller lavender, also called true, fine or population lavender.
Each clump comes from a particular seed and is different from neighboring clumps. These differences are particularly appreciable in the quality and olfactory complexity of essential oils.

Its resistance to cold is remarkable and the altitude of 1100m is ideal. It is very calcific and does not like acidic, clayey, compact and heavy soils. Good sunlight is essential for fuel yield. It is therefore perfectly adapted to our terrain.

It appreciates the precipitation at the time of the resumption of the plants after their planting, in May and June when the flowers are forming and at the end of summer for the resumption of the plants after the harvest.

At Château du Bois, no cuttings are made, the seed of the year is collected to be sown in winter directly in the ground, thus respecting the natural reproduction cycle of the plant for crop rotations.

Fine lavender from Provence or the blue gold of the region

An emblematic flower of Provence, fine lavender essential oil is the most used in aromatherapy as its properties are so extensive.

Fine lavender essential oil finds its place in helping to relieve:

-Insomnia (2 to 3 drops on the pillow), irritability (by diffusion in the air), headaches (by massage on the temples), stress (5 to 6 drops in the bath). Lavender is calming.

-Wounds and burns (1 to 2 drops), dry eczema (2 to 3 drops on a cotton pad to pass over the patches without rubbing), bedsores, sunburns, insect bites. Lavender is disinfectant and healing.

-Colds and sinusitis (1 to 2 drops inhaled). Lavender is anti-infectious.

-Sore throat (1 to 2 drops on a sugar cube or on a spoonful of honey).

-Contractures and rheumatism (a few drops in friction). Lavender is relaxing and calms pain.

-Lice (1 drop behind the ears for prevention), intestinal parasites (1 drop on a sugar for 3 days). Lavender is antiparasitic.
Important: all these uses are only valid with fine lavender (Lavandula angustifolia population).
