Around our authentic open-flame still, each visitor discovers this famous alchemy to obtain, through steam extraction, the precious lavender extract, known as essential oil.
Botanical and technical explanation of distillation
Guided by the distiller's explanations, visitors experience a real scene from the past, with scents escaping from the still's head, and the hydrosol combined with the essential oil flowing into the Florentine vase (essence separator).
Local gardeners bring their harvested flowers for us to distill, and they leave with their own lavandin essence. It’s a convivial moment around the traditional still.

Practical information on lavender distillation at the Luberon Lavender Museum
- Workshop for individual visitors or families in July and August.
- It is not possible to book the distillation workshop for groups (school groups, organized trips, etc., only individual vacationers).
- Average duration around the still 20–30 minutes
- Traditional audio guided visit after the live distillation : duration 1 hour Activity for adults and children It is necessary to go to the reception to get your bracelet allowing access to the distillation area in the Museum's garden
- To follow the traditional audio guided tour at the Museum, you must return to the reception to obtain the audio guide included with your ticket. It is available in 11 languages (French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Czech, Russian, Japanese, Chinese).
