Provençal folklore offers magnificent and particularly rich costumes and fabrics: boutis, quilted fabrics, patterns called “indienne”. Indeed, the people of Provence had the first taste of fabrics arriving from India via the port of Marseille. The Marseille seamstresses worked real miracles by hand quilting with cotton rovings, “boutis” renowned throughout the world.
The Museum highlights two traditional costumes sought after by Michel Biehn, antique dealer and specialist in old fabrics in Isle sur la Sorgue.
